The Folklore Wiki is a collective information-sharing enterprise that over time will become a comprehensive knowledge base about folklore and the field of folklore studies.

The Folklore Wiki can accommodate a wealth of information, including links to other sites of interest, as well as original, full-text sources of information and images.

The initial content for the Folklore Wiki comes in large part from the About Folklore chapter of the previous AFS website, but the Wikis’ future growth and development will be shaped by AFS members’ interests and contributions.

Currently, the Folklore Wiki has the following sections:

• About Folklore: definitions, descriptions, introductory essays
  
• About Folklore Studies: history and scope of the field, including universities with folklore programs
  
• Organizations and Institutions: directories of local, state, national, and international organizations and institutions
• Consultants and Contacts: directories of individuals, including independent folklorists and promotion and tenure reviewers.
  
• Publications and Communications: journals, books, bibliographies, online communities
  
• Resources for Folklorists: references or full texts of useful sources, organized by area of interest
• In Memoriam: remembrances of our colleagues who have passed away
  

Contributing to the Folklore Wiki

Members must sign in to make online contributions to the wiki space. You do not have to be a member of AFS, but non-members must register as "web only" members to create a user profile. See FAQ for more information.

To add information to an existing page, click the Edit This Page button in the upper right-hand corner of the text area. Be sure to hit Submit when you’re done. (You will not see this button unless you are signed in.)

If you have new pages to add, use this blank page, or send your page(s) in .doc format to Lorraine Walsh Cashman. Provide the page title and text, including any hyperlinks, and note where the pages should be placed. Please feel free to suggest revisions to the Wiki menu itself. Members of the American Folklore Society can post new content and edit existing content. Those who have not joined AFS can only view Wiki content.
